Every kid deserves A

Poppy thinks every child should have a mailbox of their own. We built a way to make sure they can.

Give a Key →

A first mailbox is a big deal for a kid — their name on it, their own key to keep track of, the wait for something to show up just for them.

But a mailbox costs money. More than you'd think, and more in some towns than others. For some families that cost is the one thing standing between their kid and the whole experience. Give a Key makes sure it isn't.

Key.

Here's what a mailbox actually costs.

We priced the same box — the small one, the one built for letters — at three post offices on the same afternoon.

PO Box prices at three post offices, three-month and six-month terms
Post office 3 months 6 months
BoonvilleMissouri $25 ~$43
JacksonWyoming $46 $80
Santa Rosa BeachFlorida $59 $101

Same box. Same size. Same letters going in and out of it.

More than twice the price, depending on where you live.

That's the part that gets us. Not that a mailbox costs money — most things do. It's that whether a kid gets to have one comes down to which post office happens to be closest to their house.

A nine-year-old in Missouri and a nine-year-old in Florida want the exact same thing. One of them costs their mom $25 and the other costs $59, and neither kid has any idea that's the reason.

You give

Add a key at checkout, or donate any amount on this page. Your gift goes into the shared fund.

You'll get a thank-you the moment you give — and the quiet knowledge that you helped a kid somewhere turn a key for the first time.

How it works

Simple on both sides.

Giving

They receive

Families who'd like help covering a PO Box fill out a short form. We review every application within 48 hours.

Approved families get a credit covering their setup cost — no income verification, no documentation, no judgment. We trust you.

You have three ways to give.

Partial sponsorship

A piece of a box. Gifts pool until one is covered.

Give $5 →

$5

One full PO Box setup

A bigger piece — still part of a shared box, not a whole one.

Give $10 →

$10

A full year

A solid chunk — most of a box in the cheaper towns.

$20

Give $20 →

Every gift sends you a thank-you right away. Because the fund is one shared pool, we can't tie your dollars to a specific child — but you can know for certain you helped one of them get their first key.

Fill out the short form below — your name, your email, how many kids you're enrolling, and whether you're already a MailDay member or joining at the same time. That's it.

We review every application within 48 hours. If the fund can cover your setup, you'll hear back with what you need to get your kid's mailbox started, plus a note from Courtney. If the fund's running low that week, we'll add you to the list and reach out the moment it fills back up. You won't fall through the cracks.

Dear Friend,

I've had my mailbox for as long as I can remember. It sits at the end of the lane outside my cottage — bright red, always full, always waiting.

There's something about having your own mailbox that's different from sharing one. It says: this is mine. My letters come here. My friends find me here. This is where my adventures begin.

I hope you love yours as much as I love mine.

Yours by post,

Poppy

P.S. The trick is to let them carry the key the whole way there. Trust me.

FAQ

A Few Questions.

Where does my money go?

Directly into the MailDay Mailbox Fund — a communal pool that covers PO Box setup costs for families who apply. There's no administrative fee taken from Give a Key donations. Every dollar goes toward mailboxes.

Do I find out who receives my sponsorship?

No — and that's by design. Everything flows through one shared fund, so there's no way to tie your gift to a specific child. You'll get a thank-you when you give, and you can trust that your dollars helped a family who needed it. No names, no details, because protecting these families' privacy matters more than a feel-good update.

Can I give more than $20?

Yes — you can donate any amount you wish using the "Other" option in the donation box. If you'd like to make a larger gift or explore corporate sponsorship opportunities email us at hello@joinmailday.com.

Does Give a Key cover my MailDay membership?

Give a Key covers your PO Box setup cost only — that's the one barrier we're solving. Your monthly MailDay membership is a separate charge you'll set up when you apply. At $14-20/month depending on your tier, it's less than most streaming subscriptions. If you ever need to pause, that option is always available to you.

What if the fund runs out before my application is reviewed?

You'll go on the waitlist and hear from us as soon as the fund replenishes. Applications are reviewed in the order received. You won't lose your place.

Is Give a Key tax deductible?

Not currently — MailDay is a for-profit LLC and Give a Key donations are not tax deductible at this time. We are exploring fiscal sponsorship options for future giving. We'll update this page if that changes.

Can my company sponsor mailboxes in bulk?

We'd love to talk about it. Corporate sponsorships, back-to-school giving programs, and holiday giving campaigns are all things we're building toward. Email hello@joinmailday.com and a real person will write back.

But for a kid standing at their own mailbox for the first time — turning it, pulling open the little door, finding something that was sent just for them — it's the whole world.
