It's easier than you think

Three steps.
One very happy mailbox.

Poppy handles the matching. You handle the stamps. Your kid handles everything else — including the squealing when a letter arrives.

1

Tell us about your child

Age, interests, personality — everything Poppy needs to find the right match.

2

Poppy finds their match

Thoughtful, hand-considered matching within 5–7 days of joining.

3

Write, send, wait, squeal

Monthly packs arrive with everything needed to send something wonderful.

1

Tell us about your little writer.

When you sign up, you fill out a short profile about your child — their age, what lights them up, whether they're a talker or a quiet observer, what kind of friend they're hoping to find. The more you share, the better Poppy can work her magic.

Tell us your child's age, interests, and personality

Choose Core, Minis (ages 3–6), or Homeschool

Set up your secure MailDay mailbox (no home address shared)

Takes about 5 minutes — then Poppy takes over

"I read every single profile. I have strong opinions about who should write to whom. I once spent three days finding the perfect match for a girl who only wanted to discuss frogs. Worth it."

— Poppy, Chief Matching Officer

Step One

2

Poppy finds the perfect pen pal.

This is the part we take most seriously — and the part that makes MailDay different from every other pen pal service. We don't use an algorithm. Poppy (and her human team) reads the profiles and makes a considered match.

Similar ages, complementary interests

Different enough backgrounds to spark curiosity

Match confirmed within 5–7 business days

We notify you when your first pack ships

"I have a clipboard. And a very specific system. And strong feelings about pairing kids who both love rocks with kids who have never once thought about rocks."

— Poppy, still at her clipboard

Step Two

3

Write, send, wait, and squeal.

Each month a pack arrives from Poppy — everything your child needs to complete their mission and send something wonderful. Then the waiting begins. The glorious, anticipation-filled waiting. And then — a letter arrives back.

A new mission card from Poppy's latest adventure

Themed stationery + fold-and-seal envelope

Sticker sheet to decorate the letter

Pre-stamped return envelope so they can send right away

"This month's mission comes from my trip to the lighthouse. I found a message in a bottle. No I won't say what it said. Write your pen pal and maybe I'll tell you."

— Poppy

Step Three

Every. Single. Month.

What's in Poppy's pack.

Themed Stationery

2 sheets per month, themed to Poppy's latest adventure. Beautiful enough to keep forever.

Mission Card

Poppy's prompt from her latest adventure — a writing prompt for Core, drawing prompt for Minis.

Fold-and-Seal Envelope

Designed to fold around the stationery — no separate envelope needed. Wax seal sticker included.

Sticker Sheet

A full sheet of themed stickers for decorating letters, envelopes, and — let's be honest — everything else.

Three years of adventures. Planned from the start.

Poppy's adventures are mapped out three years in advance — a complete arc that grows alongside the children who read them. This is not a subscription that runs out of ideas. Poppy knows exactly where she is going.

Year 1

The World Outside

Poppy explores the big wide world — tide pools and ancient forests and the arctic tundra and the space between stars. Each month connects to a core feeling. By the end of Year 1, your child has traveled to twelve places and felt twelve things, through letters.

My son checks the mailbox every single day now. He didn't used to care about the mailbox at all. He has opinions about whether the mail carrier is running late. This is not a problem I expected to have.

— Marcus T., dad of Eli, age 9 · Chicago, IL

Still wondering?

Good questions.

What if my child's pen pal stops writing back?

If a pen pal goes quiet for more than one month, just let us know and Poppy will find a new match within 5–7 days. No awkward conversations. We handle the whole thing, and your child never needs to know it wasn't their choice.

How is my child's address kept private?

All letters are routed through MailDay's PO box system — pen pals never see each other's home addresses. Your family's address stays completely private. We are fully COPPA compliant and take child privacy seriously.

My child is 4 — can they really participate?

Yes! MailDay Minis is designed for ages 3–6. The mission is a drawing prompt — kids draw their response. You can add a scribed sentence or two. Their pen pal gets original artwork in the mail, which honestly might be better than a regular letter.

Do I need to help my child write their letter?

For older kids (7+), the mission card does most of the work — they usually don't need help. For younger kids, a little guidance goes a long way. The prompt gives them something specific to respond to, which makes starting much easier. Many parents find it becomes a lovely ritual.

When does the first pack arrive?

After you join, Poppy matches your child within 5–7 business days. Your first pack ships with that month's mailing and typically arrives within 1–2 weeks of joining. You'll get a notification when it ships.
